Several members of the Capron Lions Club braved a very chilly spring morning to work on improving Lions Park in Capron, Illinois. The bathrooms were dismantled and painted with new fixtures being added where needed and old ones being repaired if possible. The interior of the shack was also cleaned and prepped for the upcoming little league season. New construction consists of an octagonal sandbox for the smaller kids to play in while their bigger siblings play baseball. Big thanks go out to Lions Barb, Scott, Al, Will and Ray.

Government Penalizes Small Growers |
Sunday, 02 March 2008 |
Since we live in the agricultural heart of this country any news of the farm bill that is currently working it's way through Congress should hold some interest. The farm bills were originally created to help the family farmer when crops failed or prices got so low as to threaten the very existance of small farmers. Sadly that day has long past and now the biggest beneficiaries of farm aid are giant agribusinesses and powerful lobbies who manipulate Congress to maximize their profits while plundering public funds. Big produce growers in California, Florida and Texas are pushing hard to limit the expansion and growth of the regional food markets by making it almost impossible for small farmers to grow such things as watermelons, lettuce and grapes. This is an example of government at it's worst and it hits you, the consumer, right in the pocketbook. |
Tuesday, 06 November 2007 |
November 6, 2007 - The construction of the new Masonic Lodge and Community Center that started earlier this year in Lions Park may finally get back under way soon. This is good news because the new building will benefit the growing population of Capron and the surrounding area. The project is privately funded by the Capron Masons and generous private donations.
